General Information About Me:
With over 15 years of classroom and tutoring experience, I bring a great deal of teaching knowledge to my students at Malvern Tutoring. My philosophy of teaching is rooted in multi-sensory learning. Students love to learn, and learn better, when they are using as many senses as possible. In our tutoring sessions students enjoy gross motor, tactile, auditory (we sing the multiplication tables), and visual activities in addition to our pencil to paper work. My goal in every tutoring session is for my students to have fun, and want to come back week after week. I include many games and art projects into our sessions, to keep things interesting, creative and fun as the students learn their spelling words, math facts, and other curricula. Each student receives her/his own “mascot” stuffed animal, who “helps” in the learning process and also gives them something to fiddle with when they need that.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I had a successful career in international banking in New York City, working with Colombian banks, loan syndication, and leveraged leasing transactions. I intentionally changed my career to the fulfilling world of teaching after a trip to Africa; after much reflection, I realized wanted my work to make a direct, positive difference in the world. I love teaching, and look forward to speaking with you more about how I can help your child.
As a tutor I appreciate seeing my students’ report cards and any testing you may have available. I am also very active in communicating with parents after every session to let them know what we did, where the strengths were, and also what we need to continue to work on. Throughout the school year, I am in touch with the students’ teachers and reading specialists to update them on our progress, and keep abreast of what is going on in the classroom. My sessions are completely individualized, based on student learning needs. Communication with parents and teachers has been a key to the success of my students.
